Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Procox** is a veterinary oral suspension combining **emodepside** (0.9 mg/ml), a cyclooctadepsipeptide anthelmintic, and **toltrazuril** (18 mg/ml), a triazinetrione anticoccidial, for treating mixed parasitic infections in dogs and puppies. **Emodepside** binds to latrophilin receptors on nematodes, releasing inhibitory neuropeptides that cause flaccid paralysis of the parasite's pharynx and musculature, leading to expulsion; it targets roundworms (*Toxocara canis*, *Toxascaris leonina*) and hookworms (*Ancylostoma caninum*, *Uncinaria stenocephala*). **Toltrazuril** disrupts mitochondrial respiratory chain enzymes and nuclear division in coccidia (*Isospora canis*, *Isospora ohioensis* complex), killing all intracellular stages and reducing oocyst shedding. Developed by Bayer (now associated with Elanco and marketed by Vetoquinol), it is indicated from 2 weeks of age in puppies ≥0.4 kg, administered at 0.5 ml/kg orally as a single dose, with a high safety margin but potential mild GI side effects like vomiting or loose stools.[1][2][3][5]
