Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Proctosedyl is an approved fixed-dose combination medication formulated as an ointment or suppository for the short-term symptomatic relief of hemorrhoids, anal fissures, pruritus ani, and proctitis. It combines four active ingredients with distinct therapeutic actions: hydrocortisone (a mild corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, swelling, and itching), cinchocaine hydrochloride (a potent local anesthetic that blocks voltage-gated sodium channels to provide rapid pain relief and relax sphincteric spasms), framycetin sulfate (an aminoglycoside antibiotic that targets the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit to prevent or treat secondary bacterial infections), and aesculin (a vasoprotective coumarin glycoside that reduces capillary permeability and fragility). Originally developed by Sanofi (historically Roussel Uclaf) and currently marketed in various regions by sponsors such as Phoenix Laboratories, Proctosedyl provides rapid and multi-targeted relief from anorectal discomfort.
