Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ProDiax-23 is a 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23) manufactured by Boryung Biopharma and studied by Korea University Guro Hospital. It is designed to provide active immunization against 23 different serotypes of *Streptococcus pneumoniae*, which are major causes of invasive diseases such as pneumonia, meningitis, and bacteremia. The vaccine contains purified capsular polysaccharides from serotypes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6B, 7F, 8, 9N, 9V, 10A, 11A, 12F, 14, 15B, 17F, 18C, 19A, 19F, 20, 22F, 23F, and 33F. It works by inducing a T-cell independent immune response, leading to the production of serotype-specific IgG antibodies that facilitate the opsonization and phagocytosis of the bacteria. It is primarily indicated for adults aged 65 and older and individuals with chronic conditions like diabetes who are at increased risk for pneumococcal infection.
