ProEPA Xtra

ProEPA Xtra is a high-concentration omega-3 fatty acid supplement containing a specific ratio of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). It was evaluated by the Nemours Children's Clinic in the NOOA (Nutrigenetic response to Omega-3 Fatty acids in Obese Asthmatics) trial for the treatment of uncontrolled asthma in obese adolescents and young adults (ages 12-25). The supplement works by modulating the arachidonic acid/5-lipoxygenase pathway, competitively inhibiting cytosolic phospholipase A2, and reducing the production of pro-inflammatory leukotrienes. An Investigational New Drug (IND) application was filed for its use in this clinical context to assess whether supplementation could improve asthma control and if genetic variations influence treatment response.
