Drug intelligence / Profile preview
"PMPR + iPRF + vitamin D" is an investigational combination therapy primarily studied for the treatment of periodontitis. [1] This multi-component approach involves: 1) Professional Mechanical Plaque Removal (PMPR), a non-surgical procedure to clean periodontal pockets; 2) local application of injectable Platelet-Rich Fibrin (iPRF), an autologous biomaterial derived from the patient's own blood; and 3) the addition of vitamin D. [1] iPRF is a second-generation platelet concentrate that forms a fibrin matrix rich in platelets, leukocytes, and growth factors (e.g., PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF). [3, 11] This matrix acts as a scaffold and provides a sustained release of these factors to promote tissue regeneration, angiogenesis, and wound healing. [3, 13] Vitamin D is included for its role in bone metabolism and immune modulation, which may further support the regenerative process. [2, 7] A clinical trial is evaluating this combination as an adjunct to non-surgical therapy for Stage III periodontitis. [1]
