Overview

ProGEL-AB (Progel Adhesion Barrier) is a resorbable hydrogel medical device designed to prevent post-operative adhesions following abdominal or pelvic surgical procedures. Developed by Neomend (now part of Becton Dickinson), the product consists of a proprietary formulation of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and human serum albumin (HSA). When applied via spray, these components cross-link to form a flexible, adherent hydrogel matrix that acts as a physical barrier between visceral organs and the peritoneal wall. The hydrogel is eventually resorbed by the body after the critical healing period. It is intended for use in both open and laparoscopic surgeries and received CE Mark approval in 2011.
