Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Progering is a progestin-only contraceptive intravaginal ring (IVR) specifically designed for use in lactating women. Manufactured by Silesia Laboratories, the ring is composed of a silicone elastomer matrix containing the natural steroid hormone progesterone. It is intended for continuous use, releasing approximately 10 mg of progesterone daily over a three-month period. The vaginal delivery route allows for sustained hormone levels while bypassing first-pass hepatic metabolism. Progering acts as an agonist at the progesterone receptor, exerting effects on the uterus and brain to prevent pregnancy without the use of estrogens, which are typically avoided during breastfeeding due to potential impacts on milk production.
