Prohibitin-targeting peptide 1 (prohibitin-TP01), also known as Adipotide and FTPP, is a synthetic peptidomimetic designed to induce apoptosis in blood vessels supplying white adipose tissue. Its mechanism involves binding to two receptors—annexin A2 (ANXA2) and prohibitin—on the vasculature of white fat cells. By disrupting the blood supply to these fat cells, it causes their death and subsequent reabsorption or metabolism by the body. Preclinical studies demonstrated rapid weight loss and improved insulin sensitivity in animal models such as mice and rhesus monkeys. The drug was developed for obesity treatment but was also investigated for potential antineoplastic effects due to its proapoptotic activity on tumor vasculature. Clinical development reached Phase I trials in patients with obesity and metastatic prostate cancer but has since been discontinued[1][3][4][5][6][7][8].
