Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Project 3 is a preclinical-stage small molecule drug candidate being developed by Chongqing Pharmaceutical (specifically the Chongqing Pharmaceutical Research Institute). It is designed to target poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) for the treatment of ovarian cancer. PARP inhibitors function by blocking the enzyme responsible for repairing single-strand DNA breaks. In cancer cells with existing DNA repair deficiencies, such as those with BRCA1/2 mutations, the inhibition of PARP leads to the accumulation of double-strand breaks that the cell cannot repair, resulting in a phenomenon known as synthetic lethality and subsequent apoptosis.
