Project Z

Project Z is a complex generic peptide injectable being developed by Rio Biopharmaceuticals, in collaboration with Rio Biofarma Brasil Ltda, for the treatment of obesity. It functions as a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) agonist, mimicking the action of the endogenous hormone GLP-1 to regulate appetite and caloric intake. The drug is being developed through the Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) regulatory pathway, which is used for generic versions of previously approved medications. As of 2024, Project Z is in Phase 3 clinical development, aiming to demonstrate bioequivalence and therapeutic equivalence to an existing branded GLP-1R injectable therapy.
