Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prolact CR is a human milk-based caloric fortifier developed by Prolacta Bioscience for use in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). It is derived from donor human milk and consists of pasteurized human milk cream (approximately 25% milk fat) and human milk ultrafiltration permeate. The product is designed to increase the caloric density of mother's own milk or donor breast milk without significantly increasing the volume, which is critical for the growth and weight gain of premature and very low birth weight infants (typically those weighing less than 1,500 grams). While classified as a medical food or nutritional product in the United States and Canada, it is approved as a prescription drug in Japan under the brand name PreemieFort Enteral Solution CF for infants with very low birth weight or congenital gastrointestinal and heart disorders.
