Prolastin-C Liquid is a ready-to-use intravenous formulation of alpha1-proteinase inhibitor (human), also known as alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT). It is indicated for chronic augmentation and maintenance therapy in adults with clinical evidence of emphysema due to severe hereditary deficiency of Alpha1-PI (alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency). The drug works by raising plasma levels of Alpha1-PI, a serine protease inhibitor that protects lung tissue from neutrophil elastase-mediated damage. This replacement therapy aims to slow the progression of emphysema in affected individuals. Prolastin-C Liquid is administered intravenously at a recommended dose of 60 mg/kg once weekly. The effect on pulmonary exacerbations and long-term outcomes has not been conclusively demonstrated in randomized controlled trials[1][3][4][5].
