Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ProLectin-A is an investigational intravenous galectin antagonist being developed by BioXyTran for the treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) secondary to COVID-19. It is a carbohydrate-based therapeutic designed to target galectins, specifically by blocking the galectin fold on the N-terminal domain (NTD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. This mechanism is intended to inhibit viral adhesion and entry while simultaneously modulating the immune response to reduce macrophage trafficking and the subsequent cytokine storm, thereby restoring immune homeostasis in severe cases.
