Overview

Prolintane is a central nervous system stimulant and norepinephrine–dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI) of the phenylalkylpyrrolidine family. Developed in the 1950s, it is structurally related to amphetamines and shares similarities with compounds such as pyrovalerone and MDPV. Prolintane acts by inhibiting the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine, increasing their concentrations in the synaptic cleft and thereby enhancing alertness, focus, energy levels, and concentration. It was used therapeutically for conditions like narcolepsy and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), particularly in Europe, Australia, and Africa. The drug was marketed under several brand names including Katovit by FHER until 2001. Adverse effects include insomnia, nervousness, irritability, dizziness; overdose can lead to hallucinations or psychosis. Prolintane has also been noted for its potential for abuse.
