Proliverenol is a bioactive fraction derived from the dried fruit of Phaleria macrocarpa (Scheff.) Boerl, an Indonesian herbal plant. It is being investigated primarily for its hepatoprotective properties, particularly in the context of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and liver fibrosis. The proposed mechanisms of action include anti-inflammatory effects, DNA repair facilitation, anti-apoptotic activity, antioxidant effects (amelioration of oxidative stress), and regulation of pro-fibrogenic cytokines such as Transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1) and antifibrotic markers like Matrix metalloproteinase 13 (MMP-13). Preclinical studies have shown that Proliverenol can normalize liver function tests and reduce markers of oxidative stress and fibrosis in animal models[1][2][3][6][7][8]. Clinical trials are ongoing to evaluate its efficacy in patients with NAFLD.
