Overview
Promescent is a topical desensitizing spray containing lidocaine, specifically formulated for the treatment of premature ejaculation. It functions as a local anesthetic that reduces sensitivity in the penis by numbing the sensory nerves, thereby delaying ejaculation. Originally developed by Dr. Ron Gilbert, the product is marketed as an over-the-counter (OTC) drug under the FDA monograph for male genital desensitizing products. A Phase 3 clinical trial (NCT02241460) was conducted by Dr. Eugene Y. Rhee to evaluate its efficacy and safety compared to placebo.
