Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prometa L34 is a probiotic dietary supplement containing the indigenous Thai strain *Lactobacillus rhamnosus* L34 (also classified as *Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus* L34). Developed by Greater Pharma in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University, the supplement is designed to support gut and kidney health. *Lactobacillus rhamnosus* L34 is highly tolerant to gastric acid, bile, and capsaicin (the active component in chili peppers), making it particularly suited to the Thai diet. It works by strengthening the intestinal epithelial barrier to prevent leaky gut syndrome, reducing the translocation of gut-derived uremic toxins into the bloodstream, and lowering systemic inflammatory cytokines (such as TNF and IL-8). Prometa L34 is marketed for the management of leaky gut syndrome and to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD stages 3-5, non-dialysis) by reducing kidney fibrosis and inflammation.
