Overview
Promicrobioma is a lyophilized (freeze-dried) human fecal microbiota product developed for the treatment of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI). It is designed to restore intestinal microbiome diversity, primarily within the phyla Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes, to displace Clostridioides difficile and resolve dysbiosis. The product was developed by the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná (PUCPR) Fecal Microbiota Bank in Brazil as a more cost-effective alternative to standard antimicrobial therapies like vancomycin and fidaxomicin. It is typically administered to patients with recurrent or refractory CDI to achieve long-term clinical success and reduce the healthcare burden associated with the infection.
