Overview

PROMOSTEM is an allogeneic cell therapy consisting of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from human umbilical cord blood (UCB). Developed by Samsung Medical Center in collaboration with Medipost, it is specifically designed for the treatment of steroid-refractory acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). MSCs possess potent immunomodulatory properties, enabling them to suppress the activation and proliferation of alloreactive T-cells and modulate the inflammatory environment through the secretion of various soluble factors such as prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO). As a UCB-derived product, PROMOSTEM offers an "off-the-shelf" therapeutic option that does not require stringent HLA matching and can be expanded in vitro for clinical use, providing a significant advantage over bone marrow-derived alternatives in pediatric and adult populations.
