The PROMUS Stent is a drug-eluting coronary stent system developed by Boston Scientific for the treatment of coronary artery disease. It consists of a balloon-expandable stent made from a platinum chromium alloy (PtCr) coated with a biocompatible PVDF-HFP polymer that facilitates the controlled release of everolimus. Everolimus is an immunosuppressive and antiproliferative agent that inhibits the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway, thereby reducing smooth muscle cell proliferation and neointimal hyperplasia to prevent restenosis. The stent is indicated for improving luminal diameter in patients with symptomatic heart disease or silent ischemia caused by de novo lesions in native coronary arteries.
