PROMY

PROMY is a branded generic formulation of omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) developed and marketed by Citi Pharma. It is a substituted benzimidazole that acts as a small molecule inhibitor of the gastric H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system (the proton pump) located on the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell. By binding covalently to cysteine residues via disulfide bridges on the alpha subunit of the pump, it irreversibly inhibits the final step of gastric acid secretion. PROMY is administered orally and is available as a 20 mg capsule or a film-coated MUPS (Multiple-Unit Pellet System) tablet containing enteric-coated micro pellets. It is indicated for the treatment of acid-related disorders including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
