Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pronamel Daily Protection is an over-the-counter therapeutic oral care product specifically formulated to mitigate the effects of acid erosion and manage dentin hypersensitivity. It contains two primary active pharmaceutical ingredients: sodium fluoride and potassium nitrate. The sodium fluoride component functions as a remineralizing agent; fluoride ions facilitate the conversion of hydroxyapatite in dental enamel into fluorapatite, which possesses a lower solubility product and enhanced resistance to acidic challenges. The potassium nitrate component serves as a desensitizing agent by delivering potassium ions that diffuse through dentinal tubules to the dental pulp. These ions increase extracellular potassium concentrations, causing a sustained depolarization of the nerve cell membranes, which effectively inhibits the initiation and conduction of pain impulses. Developed by GSK and now marketed by Haleon, this formulation is engineered with a neutral pH and low abrasivity to maximize enamel uptake and minimize mechanical wear on softened tooth surfaces.
