Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prontosan Wound Gel is a topical wound care gel developed and manufactured by B. Braun for management of acute and chronic wounds and burns. It is a combination formulation containing polihexanide, also known as polyhexamethylene biguanide, together with betaine surfactant; the product is used to cleanse, moisturize, and decontaminate the wound bed between dressing changes while helping disrupt and prevent biofilm formation. Rather than acting through a conventional single molecular target, its therapeutic effect derives from broad topical antimicrobial activity of polihexanide and surface-cleansing surfactant action of betaine, supporting a moist wound-healing environment in indications such as traumatic wounds, venous ulcers, arterial ulcers, diabetic ulcers, and pressure ulcers.
