Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PROPEL is a bioabsorbable, drug-eluting sinus implant containing the corticosteroid mometasone furoate. It is designed to maintain patency of the sinus cavity following endoscopic sinus surgery and to locally deliver anti-inflammatory medication directly to the healing tissue. The device gradually releases 370 mcg of mometasone furoate over approximately 30 days, with presence in tissue for up to 60 days, and then fully dissolves. Its self-expanding design supports the sinus cavity while minimizing post-operative scarring and inflammation, reducing the need for additional surgical interventions or systemic steroids. The mechanism of action involves local suppression of inflammatory responses by inhibiting multiple cell types (mast cells, eosinophils, neutrophils, macrophages, lymphocytes) and mediators (histamine, eicosanoids, leukotrienes, cytokines) involved in inflammation[1][2][4][6].
