Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PropoFlo is a branded intravenous formulation of propofol, a short-acting sedative–hypnotic anesthetic used for induction and maintenance of general anesthesia and for procedural or ICU sedation. Propofol acts primarily as a positive allosteric modulator and, at higher concentrations, agonist at GABA-A receptors, enhancing inhibitory neurotransmission in the central nervous system and producing rapid loss of consciousness with quick recovery due to rapid redistribution and metabolism. It is supplied as a sterile lipid emulsion for IV use and is typically employed in operating rooms, procedural suites, and intensive care units to provide controlled, titratable sedation or anesthesia.
