Overview

TIVA-University of Florida refers to a specific total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) regimen evaluated by the University of Florida in clinical research, most notably in the Phase 4 trial NCT02643303. This combination therapy is used to maintain anesthesia without the use of inhalational agents, specifically to study its effects on intraocular pressure (IOP) during robotic gynecologic oncology procedures in the steep Trendelenburg position. The regimen consists of the sedative-hypnotic propofol, the opioid analgesic fentanyl, and the non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent rocuronium. Additionally, lidocaine is administered intravenously prior to propofol induction to mitigate injection-site pain. The primary clinical objective of this specific protocol is to determine if TIVA results in a smaller increase in IOP compared to conventional balanced (inhalational) anesthesia during prolonged robotic surgery.
