Overview

This combination drug regimen consists of four agents frequently co-administered for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia: - **Propofol** is an intravenous sedative-hypnotic agent that acts primarily as a gamma-aminobutyric acid A (GABA-A) receptor agonist, producing hypnosis and amnesia. - **Remifentanil** is a potent, ultra-short-acting synthetic opioid analgesic that is a μ-opioid receptor agonist, providing analgesia and suppressing hemodynamic responses. - **Atracurium** is a non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocker, acting as a competitive antagonist at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular junction, enabling muscle relaxation and facilitating endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation. - **Sevoflurane** is a volatile inhalation anesthetic that enhances GABAergic inhibitory transmission in the central nervous system, promoting anesthesia and hypnosis. The combination is used for balanced anesthesia, providing rapid induction and recovery, cardiovascular stability, profound analgesia, amnesia, and reliable muscle relaxation. This multi-agent approach allows titration of individual components to optimize anesthetic depth, reduce side effects, and support hemodynamic stability during surgical procedures[1][2][3].
