Overview

This is a combination of three intravenous agents—propofol, remifentanil, and cisatracurium—used together for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia. - **Propofol** is a short-acting sedative-hypnotic agent that acts as a positive allosteric modulator at the gamma-aminobutyric acid type A (GABA-A) receptor, producing rapid loss of consciousness[9]. - **Remifentanil** is an ultra-short acting synthetic opioid analgesic that acts as an agonist at the mu-opioid receptor, providing potent analgesia and blunting sympathetic responses to surgical stimuli[3]. - **Cisatracurium** is a nondepolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent that competitively inhibits acetylcholine at nicotinic receptors on skeletal muscle, resulting in muscle relaxation necessary for intubation and surgery[8][10]. The combination allows for rapid induction with excellent intubating conditions, hemodynamic stability, profound analgesia, and controlled muscle relaxation. This regimen is commonly used in operating rooms for endotracheal intubation and maintenance of anesthesia during surgery or mechanical ventilation[1][2][5].
