Propofol Medium and Long Chain Fat Emulsion Injection is an intravenous general anesthetic and sedative developed by Haisco Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd. The active ingredient, propofol, is a small molecule that acts as a positive allosteric modulator of the gamma-aminobutyric acid type A (GABA-A) receptor complex, facilitating inhibitory neurotransmission in the central nervous system. This specific formulation utilizes a lipid vehicle composed of both medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) and long-chain triglycerides (LCT). Compared to traditional long-chain triglyceride-only propofol emulsions, the MCT/LCT formulation is designed to reduce the concentration of free propofol in the aqueous phase, thereby potentially decreasing the incidence of injection-site pain and improving the lipid metabolism profile during prolonged administration. It is indicated for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia and for sedation in intensive care or diagnostic procedures.
