Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Propolis flavonoid extract is a flavonoid-rich preparation derived from propolis, a resinous substance collected by honeybees. It is being investigated for its immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties, specifically its ability to inhibit Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling and suppress the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). Research conducted by Cairo University has focused on its potential to regulate inflammatory responses in human periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) under lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced stress, suggesting a therapeutic role in managing periodontal diseases and other inflammatory conditions.
