Propolis mouthwash (Mahsa University) is a herbal oral rinse formulation containing 5% Malaysian propolis as the active ingredient. Developed by the College of Pharmacy at MAHSA University, it is designed to manage chronic generalized gingivitis and reduce dental plaque. Propolis, a resinous substance collected by honeybees, possesses antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, which contribute to its efficacy in improving gingival health. In clinical evaluations (NCT04032548), this formulation demonstrated significant improvements in gingival and plaque indices, showing comparable or superior effectiveness to the standard 0.12% chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash without the common side effects associated with synthetic antimicrobials.
