Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Proponent Nasal Spray (PSNS) is a medical device developed by Pharma Nordic AS for the treatment of rhinitis medicamentosa (RM), a condition characterized by rebound nasal congestion resulting from the chronic overuse of topical sympathomimetic decongestants such as xylometazoline or oxymetazoline. Proponent is designed to provide symptomatic relief of nasal congestion in adults who are undergoing the weaning process from these addictive alpha-adrenergic agonists. As a medical device, its mechanism of action is primarily physical or mechanical rather than pharmacological, likely involving the cleansing and moisturizing of the nasal mucosa to restore normal physiological function without inducing further rebound effects. It has been evaluated in randomized, double-blind, multicenter clinical trials comparing its efficacy to physiological saline (0.9% sodium chloride).
