This combination therapy regimen consists of low-dose oral propranolol and monthly intralesional bleomycin injections, specifically investigated for the treatment of infantile hemangioma. Propranolol is a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocker that promotes hemangioma regression by inducing vasoconstriction, inhibiting angiogenesis, and triggering apoptosis in endothelial cells. Bleomycin is a cytotoxic glycopeptide antibiotic that, when injected intralesionally, acts as a sclerosing agent by causing DNA strand scission and local tissue destruction. A randomized controlled trial conducted by the Wuhan Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital demonstrated that this combination approach is more effective than propranolol monotherapy, leading to faster tumor regression and improved cosmetic results in infants.
