Overview

This is a theoretical or non-standard combination of three drugs: **propranolol**, **ipratropium**, and **salbutamol** (also known as albuterol). Such a combination is not available as an approved pharmaceutical product. - **Propranolol** is a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocker (beta blocker) mainly used for cardiovascular indications such as hypertension, arrhythmias, and prevention of migraines. - **Ipratropium** is a short-acting muscarinic antagonist (SAMA), an anticholinergic bronchodilator, used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and sometimes asthma. - **Salbutamol** (albuterol) is a selective beta2-adrenergic receptor agonist (SABA), a bronchodilator also used for asthma and COPD. The combination would present conflicting pharmacological actions, as propranolol’s beta-blocking effect would antagonize the bronchodilatory effects of salbutamol, and could result in adverse events, particularly bronchospasm in susceptible individuals. No approved product or published guideline endorses concurrent use of all three agents in a fixed-dose combination.
