Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Par Pharmaceutical's generic version of Inderal-LA is an extended-release formulation of propranolol hydrochloride, a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent. As a small molecule antagonist, it targets both beta-1 and beta-2 adrenergic receptors, effectively reducing heart rate, cardiac output, and blood pressure. This generic product is FDA-approved for the treatment of hypertension, angina pectoris due to coronary atherosclerosis, migraine prophylaxis, and hypertrophic subaortic stenosis. Developed in partnership with Nortec Development Associates, the medication is available in multiple strengths (60 mg, 80 mg, 120 mg, and 160 mg) and is designed to provide sustained therapeutic levels of propranolol over a 24-hour period.
