proquazone

Proquazone is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the quinazolinone class, used primarily for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and other musculoskeletal disorders. It has also been trialed for acute pain states such as dysmenorrhea, postoperative pain, and headache. Unlike most NSAIDs, it does not have a free acid group in its structure. Its mechanism of action includes inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX), leading to reduced synthesis of prostaglandins involved in inflammation and pain signaling[1][5]. Additionally, it inhibits core protein synthesis of proteoglycans and secondary biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycan chains in cartilage tissue[6][8]. Proquazone is considered comparable in efficacy to other NSAIDs but may cause gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea[5].
