Overview

Prosed EC is a multi-ingredient oral medication used to alleviate symptoms of lower urinary tract irritation, such as pain, burning, and spasms. It is a combination of six active components: methenamine (anti-infective), methylene blue (mild antiseptic), phenyl salicylate (analgesic), benzoic acid (antiseptic), and the anticholinergics atropine and hyoscyamine. Developed by Star Pharmaceuticals, the drug features an enteric coating to reduce gastric irritation. It works by relaxing smooth muscle in the urinary tract via muscarinic receptor antagonism and providing local anti-infective action through the conversion of methenamine to formaldehyde in acidic urine.
