Prospera Pd-103 is a brachytherapy source consisting of a welded titanium capsule containing the radioisotope Palladium-103. The isotope is adsorbed onto resin or polystyrene beads within the capsule, which also includes gold beads or spheres that serve as x-ray markers for radiographic identification and localization. Manufactured by Brachytherapy Services, Inc. (Model MED3633), these seeds are primarily used for permanent interstitial implantation in localized tumors, most notably for the treatment of prostate cancer. The Palladium-103 isotope delivers localized radiation therapy by emitting low-energy X-rays (Auger electrons and X-rays) with a half-life of approximately 17 days, providing a high localized dose of radiation to the tumor while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
