Prostaglandin B1 (PGB1) is a naturally occurring prostaglandin derivative formed by the dehydration and isomerization of Prostaglandin E1 (PGE1). In pharmacological research, PGB1 has been investigated as a potent ocular hypotensive agent. Studies in animal models, such as cats and rabbits, have demonstrated that B-type prostaglandins like PGB1 can significantly reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) with greater potency and a longer duration of action than primary prostaglandins like PGF2α. Notably, PGB1 appears to lower IOP without inducing significant miosis or anterior chamber inflammation, suggesting a potential therapeutic advantage for the treatment of glaucoma and ocular hypertension.
