Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) natural killer (NK) cells are an investigational allogeneic cell therapy being developed for the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). These engineered NK cells are designed to express a chimeric antigen receptor that specifically targets PSMA, a cell-surface protein highly overexpressed in prostate cancer cells. Upon binding to PSMA, the CAR-NK cells are activated to selectively induce tumor cell lysis and secrete cytotoxic cytokines such as interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), promoting anti-tumor immune responses. Early clinical evaluation in a Phase 1 trial has demonstrated a favorable safety profile with no instances of cytokine release syndrome (CRS) or graft-versus-host disease (GvHD), alongside preliminary evidence of clinical efficacy, including reductions in prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels.
