Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Protandim is a multi-ingredient dietary supplement marketed by LifeVantage Corporation, primarily known as the "Protandim Nrf2 Synergizer." It consists of a proprietary blend of five botanical extracts: milk thistle (Silybum marianum), bacopa (Bacopa monnieri), ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), green tea (Camellia sinensis), and turmeric (Curcuma longa). The supplement is designed to activate the Nrf2 (Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2) pathway, a key cellular mechanism for regulating the antioxidant response. By activating Nrf2, Protandim induces the production of endogenous antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase, which help mitigate oxidative stress. It is being evaluated in clinical research, such as the Duke University-led ROAR-DIGAP trial, as a personalized treatment for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) patients identified with high oxidative stress biomarkers.
