Overview

ImmunArtes is developing a protein-based vaccine targeting Staphylococcus aureus Protein A (SpA) for the prevention and treatment of S. aureus infections, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The vaccine utilizes a detoxified variant of Protein A, such as SpAKKAA, which has been engineered to eliminate binding to human IgG Fcγ and VH3 immunoglobulin heavy chains. By neutralizing SpA, a key virulence factor that typically allows the bacteria to evade opsonophagocytic killing by the immune system, the vaccine aims to elicit protective antibodies that facilitate immune clearance. Preclinical studies in murine models have demonstrated safety, immunogenicity, and protective efficacy against both methicillin-susceptible (MSSA) and methicillin-resistant (MRSA) strains of S. aureus.
