Overview
Protexin is a commercial multi-strain probiotic and synbiotic supplement developed by Probiotics International Limited (now part of ADM). It typically contains a blend of seven beneficial bacterial strains: *Lactobacillus acidophilus*, *Lactobacillus plantarum*, *Lactobacillus rhamnosus*, *Lactobacillus delbrueckii*, *Bifidobacterium bifidum*, *Streptococcus salivarius*, and *Enterococcus faecium*. The product is designed to restore and maintain a healthy gut microbiota by competitively excluding pathogenic bacteria, enhancing the intestinal epithelial barrier, and modulating the host's immune response. In human medicine, Protexin has been investigated in clinical trials for conditions such as pediatric functional constipation and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). It is also widely utilized in veterinary medicine and aquaculture to improve growth performance, feed conversion ratios, and resistance to infections such as *Salmonella* and *Coccidiosis*.
