Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prothione is an oral small molecule combination therapy and nutraceutical developed by Prothione LLC. It is composed of three amino acids—L-glutamic acid, L-cysteine, and glycine—which serve as the essential precursors for the endogenous synthesis of intracellular glutathione (GSH). By increasing GSH levels, Prothione aims to reduce oxidative stress, inhibit pro-inflammatory cytokines, and enhance the antiviral immune response. The product has been evaluated in a Phase II clinical trial for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19, demonstrating efficacy in reducing viral load and accelerating clinical recovery. It is also marketed as a dietary supplement under the name Immune Formulation 200 (IF200).
