Overview

A combination therapy consisting of a **proton pump inhibitor** (most commonly lansoprazole or omeprazole), **amoxicillin**, and **clarithromycin**. This regimen is used as a first-choice treatment for eradicating **Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection** and to treat or prevent duodenal and gastric ulcers associated with H. pylori infection. - **Proton pump inhibitor (PPI)** (e.g., lansoprazole or omeprazole): decreases gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the **H+/K+-ATPase (proton pump)** in gastric parietal cells, thereby creating an environment less favorable for H. pylori and increasing the efficacy of antibiotics[1][3][6]. - **Amoxicillin:** a penicillin-class antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis leading to cell lysis. - **Clarithromycin:** a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This therapy is typically administered orally, twice daily, for 10–14 days. It is available as pre-packaged kits (e.g., Prevpac, Omeclamox-Pak) for patient convenience. Resistance to antibiotics (especially clarithromycin) may reduce effectiveness[3][4][5].
