Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prototype 2 is an experimental, alcohol-free mouthwash formulation developed by Kenvue (formerly the consumer health division of Johnson & Johnson). It is formulated with essential oils and is designed to reduce dental plaque and gingivitis when used as an adjunct to regular tooth brushing. Clinical studies have evaluated Prototype 2 for its oral soft and hard tissue tolerance (irritation potential) over 14 days and its long-term safety and microbiological efficacy over 12 weeks. As an alcohol-free alternative to traditional antiseptic rinses, it aims to provide antimicrobial benefits without the irritation or drying effects sometimes associated with ethanol-based oral care products.
