Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ProTrans is an advanced therapy medicinal product (ATMP) consisting of allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from the umbilical cord of healthy donors. Developed by NextCell Pharma, it is primarily investigated for the treatment of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and other inflammatory conditions. The therapy utilizes a proprietary selection algorithm to identify donors whose cells exhibit high immunomodulatory potency. ProTrans functions by modulating the patient's immune system to suppress the autoimmune attack on pancreatic beta cells, thereby preserving endogenous insulin production as measured by C-peptide levels. It is administered via intravenous infusion and has demonstrated a favorable safety profile in clinical trials, with evidence of efficacy in slowing disease progression in recently diagnosed T1D patients.
