Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ProTrans-Repeat is an investigational cell therapy developed by NextCell Pharma, utilizing umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs). It is specifically designed for the treatment of Type 1 diabetes (T1D). The Repeat designation refers to a clinical development program evaluating the safety and efficacy of a second dose of ProTrans in patients who had previously participated in the ProTrans-1 and ProTrans-2 trials. The therapy functions by modulating the patient's immune system to halt or delay the autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas, thereby preserving endogenous insulin production and reducing the need for exogenous insulin.
