Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Provacel is an investigational therapy consisting of adult mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from healthy donors. It has been studied primarily for the treatment of acute myocardial infarction (AMI), where it is administered to improve cardiac function following heart attacks. Clinical studies have shown that patients receiving Provacel experienced significant improvements in cardiac ejection fraction and pulmonary function compared to placebo. The proposed mechanism involves the anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic properties of MSCs, which may also benefit conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Developed by Osiris Therapeutics, Provacel represents a cell-based regenerative medicine approach aimed at tissue repair and modulation of immune responses[2][3][7].
