Overview
Proven Plus is a multi-strain probiotic formulation consisting of specific strains of lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria, including *Lactobacillus acidophilus* (CUL60 and CUL21), *Bifidobacterium bifidum* (CUL20), and *Bifidobacterium animalis* subsp. *lactis* (CUL34). Developed by Cultech Ltd and studied extensively in the PLACIDE trial led by Swansea University, the formulation was investigated for its efficacy in preventing antibiotic-associated diarrhoea (AAD) and *Clostridioides difficile* infection (CDI) in hospitalized patients aged 65 years and older. The mechanism of action involves the restoration and maintenance of the gut microbiota, which is typically disrupted by broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy, thereby inhibiting the colonization and overgrowth of opportunistic pathogens like *C. difficile*.
